What Size Are Petite Glasses?
We all have unique size needs, but it helps to know what ballpark you might be in.
Don’t know how to read glasses sizes? Find out here.
Lens Width
Lens width 45 to 50 is petite in most frame shapes.
However, round frames are an exception. That’s because round frames have relatively narrow lenses and wide bridges. Lens width 43 to 48 is petite in round frames.
Bridge Width
Like lens width, bridge width is different for round frame shapes versus other shapes. Since the round lenses are narrower, the space between them is wider. Most likely, your bridge measurement for round frames will be 2 or 3 mm larger than it is on other frame shapes.
Temple Length
The temples on petite frames are shorter than on average sized frames, allowing for a more secure fit. They are also generally longer than the temples on children’s frames. That’s good because kid’s glasses with too-short temples can cause pain behind the ears.
Lens Height
The height of your lens should be proportionate to the length of your face. Frames that are too short on a long face will make it appear overlong. Likewise, too-tall frames on a short face will make it appear swallowed up by the frames.
- If your face is long and thin, go for frames with more height. Try square or round frames.
- If your face is short and wide, go for frames with less height. Try rectangular or oval frames.
Total Width
The total width of the frame front is not a traditional part of glasses measurements. However, as more people are buying online, many sellers are beginning to include this measurement.
It’s very useful because the total width should be about equal to or slightly wider (up to 5 mm wider) than the total width of your face at its widest point.

Thanks so much for your comment, Angela. We have not yet offered the Jennifer Petite Glasses in a size 46, but that is definitely something we would consider in the future. Please check back or join our mailing list for updates. Thank you for letting us know what you’d like to see in the store!
Do you ever carry the Jennifer in an extra small? I love the shape, but it’s just a bit too big for my face. The extra small Kara fits me perfectly, but I prefer the rounded lenses on the Jennifer over the rectangular lenses on the Kara.
Thanks for sharing, Irene!
It sounds like you are looking for half-rim / semi-rimless frames?
Try the Kara Metal Half-rim:
Kara Half-Rim Black
Kara Half-Rim Brown
Kara Half-Rim Dark Berry
Kara Half-Rim Silver
Hello Sandy,
Thanks for your question!
Firstly, here is a list of our best frames for progressive lenses:
https://petiteglassescom.kinsta.cloud/product-category/progressive-friendly-petite-glasses/
Although all our frames can accommodate progressive lenses, the frames in that link are our best options because they have a bit of extra lens height.
Regarding prism lenses, the most important thing will be to choose a frame that fits securely on your face so that they do not slide. A secure fit is determined by 3 measurements: the bridge width, to total frame width, and the temple length.
Lastly, for a round face, favor rectangular lenses to create contrast.
I’d most recommend you try these styles:
Kara (multisize)
Kara metal half-rim
Jennifer
I hope you find a great fit!
Looking for petite ladies “half eyes” frames
Which of your frames for a round face with close set eyes can accommodate both progressive lenses and a 30 prism? Thank you!
Hi Becky, Glad you found what you are looking for! Do you wear your aviators as eyeglasses or sunglasses?
I found petite aviators from the brand Enhance at our local Eyemart Express. 47-16-130-33.5. Mine are blue wire frames & I love them!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment! I’m glad you found the information useful. Please note that we offer a home try-on, so it is not a problem that we are not local ;) Feel free to place an order!
I have worn glasses for YEARS….and have weathered the changes in styles thanks to skillful opticians. However, with my petite face, thick prescription and loss of local optician finding new frames has become difficult/frustrating. I am wearing frames from 2017. My vision has changed, but I am not changing from the former prescription.
Your page, comprehensive details were very helpful….it was like having someone who really listened to needs and shared perfectly. Wish you were nearby.
Thank you so much for this page, taking the time to address what is so important for those of us who are aging in years, styles, prescriptions and are lost among the current optical offerings
